2nd XI vs. Oulton Park (Away) 5/07/2003

Sale 2nd XI suffered a shock defeat after their batting line up collapsed to 150 all out chasing a very gettable 188 at Oulton Park. The home side were asked to bat first and made a good start, making Sale pay for two early dropped catches. They added 100 for the first wicket before Lightening made the breakthrough.

Watterson & Whitelegg were then introduced to take some pace off the ball and started to make further inroads. Whitelegg took a wicket before an arm strain meant that he was replaced by Hopkins. Hopkins (4-27) took a wicket in his first over and with Watterson (18.1-2-50-4) they bowled out the home side in the 48th over.

In reply only two of the Sale top order reached double figures due to some poor shots and some well taken catches. Opener Briggs (23) and Whitelegg (51) kept Sale in with a chance of victory. However once Whitelegg fell after drinks Sale were 120-9 and staring down the barrel.

A 10th wicket stand between Moore (18) and Mohammed (30 not out) nearly forced an unlikely victory. However with 20 overs of the game remaining Moore was caught at deep mid wicket to inflict only the second defeat of the season for Sale.
