2nd XI vs. Bredbury St. Marks (Home) 26/07/2003

With skipper Briggs on holiday & leading bowler Moore called up to the 1st XI an under-strength Sale 2nd XI took on an improving Marple team. Stand in skipper O'Donnell lost the toss and was asked to field first. However his opening bowlers took charge keeping the scoring rate under control. The introduction of Hopkins then swung the game in Sale's favour as his 4-30 from 13 overs effectively removed the Marple middle order.

With Marple looking like being dismissed for double figures, number 10 Bajic dug in to make what would turn out to be a match winning 41 not out. Marple were finally dismissed for 155 in the 52nd over.

In reply Sale made a complete mess of chasing a relatively low target. Boothman (17) made a good start, but too many of the Sale batsman broke the golden rule of batting at Sale ("don't play back!"). Of the other front line batsmen only Harrop (25) and O'Donnell (23) made double figures. With the game almost gone a gritty 17 from first innings hero Hopkins threatened to give Sale an unlikely victory, however when he fell Sale were still 37 runs short of their target.
