Cricket Force Weekend 2007

Sale Cricket Club once again participated in Cricket Force weekend, in total 1,150 clubs across the country took part. Over the weekend of 31st March – 1st April 2007 a number of club members gave up some, or all, of their weekend to improve the ground and facilities at our club.

Following the installation of our new practice nets we installed an external mains power supply so that we can use our bowling machine without having to use long extension leads or a battery. This job was made considerably easier by Cheshire Developments who kindly donated half a day’s use of a mini-digger and driver.

In the pavilion our resident joiners Carl Hardicker and Iain Harrop were busy installing a small kitchen, racking out the cricket store built last year and replacing two damaged doors with fire doors. Our recently established junior committee have requested a small area where they can prepare refreshments so were happy to oblige!

The bulk of the labour, including many of our junior members, went on repainting the sightscreens built during Cricket Force 2005. As well as completing a few running repairs needed after winter storm damage to one of the screens; all four screens were rubbed down, undercoated and top-coated with an eggshell finish. Although a long and tedious job, the hard work and dedication of those that helped will ensure we get many more years use out of them.

We also found time to set up the practice nets, repaint the scorebox fascia and complete a number of general maintenance tasks.

We are also grateful to Scott's Plant Hire, who donated the use of a heavy roller for several days to complete the pre-season rolling on the square.

Particular thanks go to Carl Hardicker and Iain Harrop, as well as providing expert labour they also sourced a lot of the materials used either gratis or at trade prices. John O’Donnell and Matt Millward also did a great job organising everyone as did Alex Moore who providing the buffet!
