World Cup Disappointment for Brooke
Brooke Guest had been named in the provisional Australia under 19’s squad for the upcoming World Cup in Bangladesh before Australia’s decision to withdraw on security grounds. He impressed the selectors after scoring 357 runs @ 51 for Western Australia, whom he captained in the recent national championships. He will still be hoping to make his under 19 debut after joining the squad for the tri-series with New Zealand and Pakistan in Dubai.
Sale born Brooke joins us from the summer from South Perth CC, a club we have successfully partnered with in the past. Chairman Paul Battersby spent a winter with them in the early nineties, whilst Leigh Burns scored a league record 1,064 runs for Sale in 1996.
Two Sale alumni have been playing first class cricket in the South African domestic season. Ryan Rickelton (2015) made his first class debut for Gauteng in November and Wihan Lubbe (2012) has been a regular member of the North West side.
Congratulation to another former player, JP and Kirsty Lee celebrated the birth of their son Keidis Jon on New Year’s Day.

Iain Harrop continues as 2nd XI captain after taking over half way through last season, whilst James Hall takes over the promoted 3rd XI.

Two Sale CC teams have been competing in the Trafford Junior Indoor League at both under 10 and under 12 age-groups. There have also been a number of boys and girls taking part in county net sessions for Cheshire and Lancashire. Well done to Mia Battersby who has been selected for Lancashire’s under 13’s development team.
Most exciting of all, Mike Sambell (Sale Sports Club Development Officer) has been working with local junior schools to promote girls cricket. Around 40 girls from seven schools will be attending a special girl’s cricket event at Sale High School on 14th January.
