Sale win by 7 wickets
Sale captain Chris Canning got the new cricket season off to a perfect start, as his side secured a convincing 7 wicket win over Didsbury in division 1 of the Vivio Cheshire County Cricket League. Search sponsored Sale 1st XI finished the 2014 season just 1 point behind 3rd placed Didsbury so both sides were keen to put down an early promotion marker. Canning saw his side home with a typically aggressive innings of 71 off just 68 balls, sharing an unbeaten 136 run partnership with Dan Halkon (72).
Didsbury were invited to bat first on a great early season wicket at Sale’s Dane Road ground. Thanks to a 95 ball hundred from Josh Beal and an unbeaten 74 from Matthew Grace the visitors set an imposing total of 242-7. Tyrone Lawrence and Rob Grant took two wickets a piece for Sale, with ‘keeper Canning claiming 3 stumpings.
In reply Ian Dixon (42) and Matt Spells (30) got the home team off to a good start adding 79 for the first wicket. Simon Normanton led the fight back for Didsbury reducing Sale to 107-3. That brought Halkon and Canning together, who saw Sale home with 23 balls to spare.
The 2nd XI suffered a 4 wicket reverse at Grappenhall after posting a below par 135, the highlight being 3 wickets on debut for Robbie Squire. The 3rd XI started with a 14 run win over Ashton-on-Mersey on Sunday.
Next weekend the 1st XI travel to Christleton, whilst the 2nd XI entertains Congleton.
